Updates for August 7th, 8th and 9th,

We spent both the 7th & 8th in Homer on the spit. It is very pretty with water all around and the mountains with snow on them behind the water. It has been mostly cloudy each day, but there has been enough sun that we were in the sun some and each part of the mountains was in the sun at some point so we could see it all just not all at once.

This is a very busy place with all the commercial fishing boats, charter boats, the other boats coming and going, as well as the tourist wondering around. What Dale liked about this place was that there are a lot of good viewing spots to watch all the activity and you could walk right out on the docks. Our camp site was within walking distance of all of this. It seems like most places you go with this big of harbor most of it is blocked off and you can only watch from a distance or just see boats coming and going, but not watch them loading and unloading.

They have dry docks there for quick repairs. They tie the boat up to one of two piers at high tide and when the tide goes out the boat is sitting on a dock. They can work on the boats until the tide comes back in.

The Homer spit is basically the end of the road, but when we were at the Anchor Point on Monday they had a sign saying that was the Western most point on a continuous highway in the US. You go South and East from there to get to Homer. Dale could have stayed there a week or two watching it all, but Dawne thought we should start back. So, the 9th we spent some time looking around the main part of Homer, including a quilt shop, and then went back to Soldotna and Richard’s place enjoying the scenery along the way. We spent the evening visiting with them.
